Descript, VEED and Kapwing alternative for talking-head videos
Descript, VEED and Kapwing are online editors with AI tools: you open a project and run the cuts, captions and exports yourself. Choose one of them if you want that control, a team workspace, translation, dubbing or 4K. Choose Rushly AI if you have a vertical video of yourself talking to the camera and would rather review an edit than assemble one. Rushly AI is a competitor of all three.
By Quentin, video editor, founder of Rushly AI. Rushly AI competes with Descript, VEED and Kapwing. Prices and features read on November 3, 2026.
Descript
What it is. An editor where you edit a transcript to edit the video. Its pages list cutting filler words and retakes, automatic captions, Studio Sound (voice and noise cleanup) and Eye Contact (descript.com).
Strengths. Remove Retakes, which finds and removes repeated takes, is documented. Descript also lists timeline export to audio and video editing software on Creator and Business, caption translation into 61 languages and dubbing into 30 ("limited" on all plans), and 4K export on Creator and Business.
Plans (per person, per month, in "$"). Free; Hobbyist $16 billed yearly or $24 monthly; Creator $24 or $35; Business $50 or $65; Enterprise on quote. Media minutes per editor: 60 a month on Free, 10 hours on Hobbyist, 30 on Creator, 40 on Business. AI credits: 100 once on Free, then 400, 800 and 1,500 a month.
Free plan. Exports are not offered without a watermark, local export is 720p, upload is capped at 1 GB, storage is 5 GB, and no credit card is asked.
Limits. Removing filler words is documented for English only (a help article without a date), while the pricing page lists 25 transcription languages including French, Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese; we could not settle the conflict. AI actions use credits, and the help pages we read do not say how many per action. Vertical reformatting is something you set up yourself; we found no step-by-step to quote.
VEED
What it is. An online editor with AI tools: automatic subtitles, text, noise removal, a translator, a teleprompter, Eye Contact AI, AI video and avatars (veed.io).
Strengths. Subtitles in 125+ languages (VEED's claim), with box-highlight and karaoke-style looks, unlimited subtitles on paid plans within a 50-hours-a-month fair-use limit, translation from Pro, a teleprompter and AI avatar and video generators, 4K on Pro and Studio.
Plans (per user, per month, in "$"). Billed yearly: Creator $10, Pro $21, Studio $35. Billed monthly: Creator $20, Pro $44, Studio $70. Enterprise on quote, plus a free plan. Billing is per seat, and VEED says paid plans have no free trial except for companies.
Free plan. Exports at 720p with a VEED.IO watermark built into the video; after you pay, you re-export the original project.
Limits. Magic Cut, which VEED says selects the best takes and removes silences and filler words, is a premium feature. Its tool page does not state languages; a VEED support article dated August 25, 2026 (read on October 29) says English only. AI credits expire and do not roll over. We found no automatic zoom.
Kapwing
What it is. An online editor with a shared workspace and a long list of tools: Subtitler, Speaker Focus (recrops on people), Repurpose Studio and Clip Maker, Smart Cut, a B-roll generator, Trim with Transcript, Clean Audio and dubbing in 40+ languages (kapwing.com).
Strengths. Word-by-word subtitles with 100+ styles and templates, 4K export up to 2 hours on Pro, clip-making from long videos, a brand kit and custom fonts on Pro, and dubbing.
Plans (per month, in "$"). Free $0; Pro $24 monthly or $16 billed yearly ($192 a year); Business $64 monthly or $50 billed yearly ($600 a year); Enterprise on quote. Pro includes 1,000 credits a month, Business 4,000.
Free plan. 10 credits, exports with a watermark, a 4-minute export limit, 720p, 5 GB of storage with projects kept 3 days, a 2 GB upload limit on the pricing page. The Smart Cut tool page says 250 MB for a free upload; the two pages differ.
Limits. Smart Cut works by prompt, and its page does not list languages or mention 9:16. We found no automatic zoom and nothing about choosing the best take. Kapwing's pricing table says 60+ languages for translated subtitles while its subtitles page says 100+.

Rushly AI prices are those shown on the home page on November 3, 2026. The competitor cells come from the pricing and help pages listed under Sources. The price row shows the lowest and highest paid price we read for each tool; the full plans are in the sections above. We did not test the three tools' cuts.
When Descript, VEED or Kapwing is the right choice
- You want to steer every cut. Descript's text editing and Remove Retakes give you detailed control.
- You work in a team or need a shared workspace. All three have one; Descript and VEED bill by person.
- You translate, dub or localize. Descript lists caption translation into 61 languages and dubbing into 30; Kapwing lists dubbing in 40+ languages; VEED lists translation in 50+ languages from Pro.
- You need 4K, avatars or B-roll generation, which Rushly AI does not do.
- Your footage is not one person talking to the camera.
When Rushly AI is the right choice
- You post vertical talking-head videos and want the edit made for you: silences, filler words and failed or repeated takes cut, animated captions, zooms, a cleaned voice and a standard sound level (-14 LUFS).
- You prefer to review rather than assemble. You pick a style, you get a 9:16 MP4; if you dislike it, you run the edit again or try another style.
- You want to see the cost first. A video uses credits in proportion to the length of your footage, and the cost is shown before you launch the edit.
Rushly AI's limits: browser only for now (a mobile version is planned), no B-roll, music or sound effects, 1080×1920 MP4 only, and it is built for a raw take of one person, not as an editor with a timeline. For the wider picture, read what an AI video editor does and what a video editor costs.
Cancel or switch
- Descript: app settings, Plan tab, Downgrade to Free. The plan stays active until the end of the cycle; refunds are possible within 48 hours of the invoice date.
- VEED: turn off auto-renewal in Workspace Billing, at least two business days before renewal. Cancelling stops future charges but does not refund.
- Kapwing: Settings, Billing, Cancel Subscription. Its policy says no refund once you are on a paid plan.
- Rushly AI: you cancel in one click from your account.

Frequently asked questions
How much do Descript, VEED and Kapwing cost?
On their pricing pages, read on November 3, 2026, per person per month. Descript: Hobbyist $16 billed yearly or $24 monthly, Creator $24 or $35, Business $50 or $65. VEED: Creator $10 billed yearly or $20 monthly, Pro $21 or $44, Studio $35 or $70. Kapwing: Pro $16 billed yearly or $24 monthly, Business $50 or $64. Each has a free plan with limits.
Which of the three has a free plan without a watermark?
None of the three, on the pages we read. Descript's Free plan does not offer exports without a watermark and exports locally at 720p. VEED's free plan exports at 720p with a VEED.IO watermark built into the video. Kapwing's Free plan puts a watermark on every export and limits exports to 4 minutes at 720p.
Do Descript, VEED and Kapwing remove filler words?
All three describe it. Descript has a Remove Filler Words tool, documented for English only in a help article that is not dated. VEED lists Magic Cut, which removes silences and filler words, as a premium feature. Kapwing's Smart Cut lets you ask its assistant to remove ums, silences and repeated phrases with a prompt. None of the three publishes a full list of languages for that cut.
Can they cut failed takes and add zooms automatically?
Descript describes a Remove Retakes action. VEED says Magic Cut selects the best takes. Kapwing lets you ask for repeated phrases to be cut by prompt, and we found nothing about choosing the best take. We found no automatic zoom on pages read for the three tools. Rushly AI cuts failed and repeated takes and places zooms in one pass.
Are Descript, VEED and Kapwing better than Rushly AI?
They do more in some areas: text editing with fine control, team work, translation, dubbing, 4K export, avatars and B-roll generators. Rushly AI does less on purpose: it edits one raw talking-head take into a 9:16 MP4 for you to review. Rushly AI is a competitor of all three, so weigh the tables above yourself.
How do I cancel Descript, VEED or Kapwing?
Descript: app settings, Plan tab, Downgrade to Free, then Cancel subscription. VEED: Workspace Settings, Workspace Billing, Turn off auto-renewal, and cancel at least two business days before renewal. Kapwing: Settings, Billing, Cancel Subscription at the bottom, or kapwing.com/cancel. Our full table is in the page on cancelling an AI video editor subscription.
