For auto captions that hold up in Premiere Pro, two things matter: how accurate the transcription is and how the result looks. Premiere's native tools transcribe, but the styling stays basic. Web apps have great styles, but make you export and upload. Rushly does both in your timeline: it transcribes word by word, then drops in your captions with the template you pick.
- Word-by-word transcription: every caption lands on the voice.
- Ready-to-use templates, not font settings to tweak by hand.
- Everything happens in your timeline, with no video export or upload.
- Four languages to choose from, or automatic detection.
What makes a good auto caption
A wrong caption shows right away. A misspelled name, a number written out in words, a line broken in the wrong place: you have to fix it all by hand, and the time you saved is gone.
Accuracy plays out on three levels. The text first: words, punctuation, numbers. Timing next: each word has to appear when it's spoken. Line breaks last: you never split “top” from “3”, or an article from its noun.
Then there's style. Premiere's basic captions are readable, but they look like basic captions. On a Reel or a Short, the look matters as much as the text.
Premiere's native transcription vs web apps vs plugins
Native Premiere. The Text panel transcribes your video and generates captions. It's free and built in. The styling, though, is up to you, by hand.
Web apps (Submagic, Opus Clip). They offer great animated caption styles. But you export your video, upload it, then reimport. You leave Premiere.
Rushly. You select your clip in the timeline. Rushly transcribes word by word, then drops in your captions with the chosen template, right in your sequence. There are 18 templates, including the Poster, Accent and Condensed presets, and you can use your own style with a font already installed on your computer. In a 9:16 sequence, you can also check the TikTok, Reels and Shorts safe zones. Fix a word in the editor and the caption follows. Only the audio track goes to the servers, never the video.
Accurate, styled captions in Premiere
- 1Start with clean audio
It's the first factor in accuracy: a decent mic does more for your transcription than any setting.
- 2Select your clip
In the timeline, select the clip to caption. In Rushly's Captions tab, pick the audio track and the spoken language: French, English, Spanish, Portuguese or automatic detection.
- 3Pick a template
Rushly transcribes, breaks your captions to the rhythm of the voice and drops the template into your sequence. Change the template or a setting and it updates.
- 4Review and fix
Fix a word, split or merge a caption in the editor. Fixing text and switching templates is free. Need a file? Export the .srt.
