Free Premiere Pro plugins: what's actually free.

Before you install anything, check what Premiere already does without a plugin. Then learn the difference between a trial, a limited version and a real free plan.

Adobe Premiere Pro plugin · Mac and Windows · 300 free credits, no credit card

The short answer

A lot of needs are covered without a plugin: Premiere Pro transcribes, detects pauses and filler words, reframes to vertical and cleans up voice, for nothing more than your Adobe subscription. Beyond that, most AI plugins offer a time-limited trial rather than a free plan. Rushly has a permanent Free plan: 300 credits one time, no credit card, and unlimited Multicam.

In short
  • Premiere already includes: transcription, pause and filler word detection, Auto Reframe, Enhance Speech.
  • A “free trial” ends after a few days. A free plan stays, with a usage limit.
  • Read the limit: minutes, credits, exports, watermark or not, credit card or not.
  • Rushly: 300 credits one time, no credit card, unlimited Multicam. Premiere Pro plugin, Mac and Windows.

What Premiere Pro already does, with no plugin

Before you look for a plugin, check what your version of Premiere can do. For several versions now, Premiere has included transcription in the Text panel, which you can also use for text-based editing and to generate captions. Since version 24.1, that same panel detects pauses and filler words, and you can delete them all at once.

Premiere can also reframe a horizontal video to vertical while tracking the subject (Auto Reframe), improve a voice recorded in a noisy room (Enhance Speech, in the Essential Sound panel), and detect the cuts in an already edited file (Scene Edit Detection). Labels change a little from one version to the next.

If that's all you need, you don't need a plugin.

Free trial, limited version, free plan: three different things

A free trial gives you everything, for a few days. Often with a credit card required upfront, and a charge if you forget to cancel.

A limited version stays free, but restricts something: a watermark on export, a maximum length, a lower resolution.

A free plan gives you real usage, with no time limit, up to a cap (in minutes or credits). It's the only one of the three that lets you test on your real projects, at your own pace.

The traps to check before you install

Look at compatibility first: a Premiere plugin installs on a specific version (Rushly needs Premiere Pro 2024 or later), on Mac, Windows or both. Then language: a tool that transcribes your language badly will cut badly. Rushly, for example, was built and tuned on French speech first. It also understands English, Spanish and Portuguese: that's exactly what a free plan is for, test it on your own footage.

Finally, check what gets sent online: some tools upload the whole video, others only the audio. And be wary of “free plugins” downloaded from anywhere other than the developer's site: a tampered extension file can break Premiere.

Rushly's Free plan

Rushly is a Premiere Pro plugin, on Mac and Windows. The Free plan gives you 300 credits, one time, no credit card required, to use wherever you want: AI Cleanup (2 credits per minute of analyzed video, so about 15 videos of 10 minutes), Smart Clips (3 credits per minute, on at least 8 minutes of footage), Captions, Zooms or Audio. Multicam is unlimited, because it runs locally on your machine.

No watermark, no time limit: the credits stay until you use them. When they run out, you move to a paid plan if the tool saved you time. If not, you stop there.

When a paid plugin is worth it

A paid plugin makes sense when it saves you more hours than it costs. On spoken footage (talking head, podcast, interview), the rough cut is often the longest task: that's where automation pays off most. To compare options, see Premiere Pro plugins and the best AI plugin for Premiere Pro.
